Hey lovlies

How's it been? What do you think on the Blog's makeover. Everything and everyone needs a makeover once in a while.

Anyways, I just wanted to give you all a heads up on my new project/hobby in the works.

In January I was really down and just beside myself with sadness as I'm transitioning from young vibrant student to boring, tired, lame worker. I didn't take me long to realize that most definitely you cannot just have work in your life. I have never really been passionate about anything but makeup. So, I came up with a hobby that I can put my time and effort into besides work....something to look forward to. I also enjoy a challenge so this is perfect.

I came up with Makeup Haven, a online makeup retail site. It's a very small...minute....business that I'm putting together. I haven't launched the site yet but here's a look at the logo. Get familiar with it.

I'm gone for now, my room is in a mess so I need to clean that otherwise it will be mess on top of mess for next week. Plus I need to wash my hair, I really procrastinated on that one.

& to the girlie that requested the video on my FB page, I did record this weekend but due to editing that vid will probably be up next weekend.

Nails of the week.... Flecks of Gold

Hey peeps

This is late but I couldn't find the time .......such is life. But atm I am sitting in heavy traffic (not driving) with nothing to do so I figured, why not blog via email?!

This week I rocked a darker shade than I usually would on my fingers. I usually leave the greys, navys and blacks for my toes. But I picked out revlon's chocolate truffle from my polish collection this week. Now its a flat milk chocolate brown ....way too boring for me. Like gross. I don't suggest this shade on its own for at least my skin tone. Gross!

I layered on 1 coat of pervision's gold glitter polish (can't remember the name) over the 2 coats of chocolate truffle. That glitter is really nice. Goes on well, with great glitter coverage. Plus its cheap. I never tried this brand before...I got it an wonderful world. The logo is a rip off of china glaze but say what.

Hope you enjoy your weekend and spruce up lame nail polish shades. I personally prefer glitter with flat polishes rather than shimmery shades.

Making the Best of Poor Packaging-Nyx Pearl Mania

Hey Lovelies

Just a lil video to show you how to make the most of poor packaging. NYX Pearl Mania Shadows are great, they have great pigmentation and are really affordable ($12-$15 TTD). However there is one thing that may deter you from using it regularly....the shape of the bottle makes it really difficult to get the product out....basically its not user friendly at all. You can depot this into a jar to ease up things but it can be messy to have loose shadow in a jar. Try pressing your Pearl Mania shadows into an empty palette or into a jar. You can even use the old sacha cosmetics packaging. The video shows how depot Sacha blushes and eyeshadows (in the old packaging) for this purpose.

FOTD: The Wonders of Concealer

Hey peeps!

Yesterday (Saturday) I had some errands to run and I decided that despite my urge to use my uber colourful 120 palette, I would keep my look really polished and clean. Here's what I came up with using concealer, no foundation and a minimal number of products.

First I moisturized my clean face using Simple's Light Moisturizer & let that soak in for about 15 mins.

Next I used my holy grail - Milk of Magnesia.

I primed using Avon's Magix Face Perfector - the untinted original one.

I love to use foundation to conceal. It's harder for me to find good concealers that

match my skintone. I used my Black Opal Cream Foundation in Truely Topaz

since this matches my perfectly.

I used the smallest concealer brush that I have and spot concealed any blemishes,

the corners of my mouth, the sides of my nose and under my eyes. That left

me with a nice clean & clear canvas.

I then had to set my concealer. I used my Black Opal Oil Blocking Loose Powder
with a velour puff to set the foundation/concealer. I just pressed the powder into my skin &
used a powder brush to dust off any excess.

Next I applied Sacha's Burnt Orange blush to the apples of my cheeks to give a natural-ish glow.

I love orange with my skin tone.

I really wanted to do something to brighten my eyes while keeping it

minimal and natural. So I highlighted my brow bone and the inner corner of my

eye lightly with Ambrosia's Nude Lust Dust.

Two swipes of Glam'Eyes Mascara on my upper lashes and clear mascara to

set my eyebrows in place completed my eye look.

The finishing touch to the barely-there makeup look was a neutral lip colour.

I applied a clear gloss first and then added Jordana's Matte Terra Cotta to give just a tint of colour.

Oh & I forgot I set with Sacha Cosmetics' Fix It Spray for oily skin.

This is pink bunny by jordana. A little brighter than I expected but its a great Barbie bubblegum pink. 2 coats and dries a little darker than the colour in the bottle.

Studio Basics Brushes---A Closer Look

Hola ladies!

OK so this is just a closer look at the Studio Basics 6 piece Ultimate Complexion Brush Set set I showed in my last post & haul (view blog post) . It retails at $61.95 at Superpharm. Here are some pics, but remember I haven't used these are washed them yet

Comes with 5 brushes and 1 makeup case.

From L to R : Foundation, mini concealer, mini powder, concealer, highlighter.

Nice deep pink and black. Seemingly well made handles.

Mini Concealer: to disguise small imperfections or fine lines.

Foundation: Use with cream or liquid foundation for an even complexion

Precision Concealer: Target discolored areas, such as under the eyes

These are pretty standard, love the variety of sizes and the soft bristles.

Highlighter: lightly blend highlighting powder over face.

Also great with regular powder, blush or bronzer for a sheer application.

Mini Powder: Dip in loose powder or pressed powder and gently apply for a smooth even finish.

In my opinion this brush is the worst made. The hairs arent shaped as perfectly as the others. It's soft though

and I can see it being used to set concealer, especially under the eyes.

Package says: This limited edition set includes 5 high-quality, soft brushes and a cosmetic case for storage.

Thought I'd share this. I remember one of my first youtube videos was a rant about a studio basics brush set I bought (see it here). These though are completely different & thus far I think this is turning out to be a good buy.

HAUL>>>Lippies & More

Hello beauties!! How's life treating you all. It's April & it's been so very long that I've done a haul. I don't really have time for too much shopping lately. That's a good thing since I save cash and use up my makeup reserves.

First I picked up 2 Revlon Super Lustrous Lipsticks from Bel Air Store, Marabella, in Demure & Sandalwood Beige. The day after I made the purchase I saw Blush Happy's blog post on her Sandalwood Beige find. I love that another Trini found love too!

Next, in one sweep I picked up a pair of Ms Makeup tweezers, one of their Blending Brushes, 2 New Revlon Lipglosses & a brush kit from Studio Basics (surprising considering I am not a fan of their regular brush kit).

Time for pics!

I heard DulceCandy87 talk about how much she loves and obsesses over these in a video. She said she bought all, so when I went into the store and saw them glittering at me I had to have one...or tow.

First impressions: I like the consistency & the applicator. Both colours are gorgeous but Strawberry is a little sheer for my liking. Both are great to top a lipstick.

This is the pair of tweezers I got. I have a pair from Avon (an old one from some Christmas/Holiday collection) but my father loves it as much as I do, so I needed a replacement. The Ms. Makeup line at S.pharm runs under $30 so I think low cost, bess tweezers are great!

They are totally metal (the black is a plactic coating), well made and very sturdy. I just plucked a few strays in the car (I wasnt driving) as soon as I got them to test them out & I am definitely pleased.

I bought another item from the same line, a Blending brush. I don't know if I've ever professed my love for this brush on this blog but it's definitely a favourite of mine. I absolutely love this for applying my highlight and then running the brush back and forth to blend the highlight shade downward. I have 1...you're lucky I didn't buy 10.

This lovely baby is Revlon's Lustrous Lipstick in Demure. It is a cream formula with very fine shimmer and is a beige-y, pink-ish, nude-y shade. It doesn't leave very much colour on plain lips though.

This shade looks very similar to Demure but Sandalwood Beige is less pink and more...coral/peach. As the name says there is a predominant beige tone as like Demure. This is also a cream formula. See this post by Blush Happy to see more on Sandalwood Beige.

Lastly is this makeup brush set from Studio Basics. It's said to be "Limited Edition"..probably just a marketing ploy. It's a 6 piece set including a clear makeup bag, a highlighting brush, a concealer brush, a mini concealer brush, a foundation brush and a small powder brush. The brushes feature pink handles and black ferrules. Really soft and sturdy right out the pack. We'll see how they preform and how they wash.

Ok that's it. I have some more to do on the lip products I bought...I'll probably put swatches in my "Swatches" album on facebook--->here. I'm not saying the pics are up yet but they will be....at some point :-(

Blushing Eyes

It's Day 3 of daily blogging. Gotta Love it! I missed it. I miss videos too but....time is a HUGE issue for me. So today I rocked the eye look below. The only thing different about it is that the colours I used were mainly blushes.

I don't have separate pics of the blushes and products used. Why? Well I'm in my jammies in bed and my makeup is all the way in my car...in the garage so that's a negative. Maybe i'll post pics tomorrow...if I remember. My brain is such rubbish now. I have to write down EVERYTHING or else I'll forget. Ok let me dig up on my PC and see if I find some pics of the stuff I used.

On the inner lid and as a blending/transition colour (which you can't really see because this is again a BB pic) I used the blush from ELF's blush/bronzing duo. Excuse the greasing face it's been over 12hours since I put on my "face" this morning.

On the lid is Sacha's Nearly Nude (which to me is really a gorgeous coral). In my crease to just give some dimension is Sacha's Coffee Bean to darken up the crease in a really natural way.

My highlight is actually a mixture of the two lightest shades in my Rimmel Quad in Smokey Brun.

I first thought about interchanging my blush & eyeshadow when I was looking for a really bright red and all I had that lived up to that description was Sacha's Perfect Wendy. It looks not red in the pic below but doh study that pic its not showing the shade right!

So I'm rocking Essie's Playa del Platinum this week on my fingernails. I've worn this colour once before but my nails are much longer now so the colour is gaining much more attention.

It's an unusual shade, a taupe-y grey. Love it! I adore taupe.

What I love about Essie is the lady-like-ness of the brand. Rather than OPI, China Glaze, Sinful Colors...etc, Essie to me is very classy and chic. There are few bright, loud neon shades and more creamy, pastel, subdued colours & I love it. Yes there are occasional brights and bolds but overall Essie is a totally calmer vibe. It screams girlie not funky which is something I admire. China Glaze would have a collection like "Spanish Flair" with vibrant reds and deep burgandies while Essie would prefer to bring out "Aspen Getaway" with snowy hues and soothing colours.

This polish is a creamy flat shade. It is glossy but thank God lacks shimmer, glitter and dazzle. As with most other cream shades this one comes off a little streaky on the first coat but the second will definitely correct that. It is opaque, thick (not thick to apply but there's a relatively thick layer on my nail) and quick (enough) drying. The gloss of it is good but I have an Orly top coat on mine to prevent chipping and wearing away.

Anyways loveies, I'm thinking of blogging everyday. It's much more difficult to make videos. I'll think about it.

Cleansing Brushes

Hey boys & girls! Long time no blog! Just thought I'd drop buy with a little tip that I've been using for quite a while now.

Now this all comes from my longing for a Clarisonic, but honestly I'm not about to drop $200+ USD on a spinning brush!

I came across an old Michelle Phan video (as in before the cool intros and different backgrounds) where she brings up the idea of using a toothbrush in your skin care regimen. See the video here.

I already had a Crest Spinbrush toothbrush from the S/Pharm ($70) and extra heads so I gave it a go.

You know that gunk that can build up in the pores in the crease at the sides of your nose and (for me at least) on your chin areas? Well over time the smallness of the brush really allowed me to get into those spots and exfoliate away that disgusting build up of white head things.

You really do need a soft bristle brush though so feel free to break in a new head on your palm first. As I also use the toothbrush on my teeth I keep the heads separate by painting the base of one with nail polish.

I used Revlon's Minted on the base coz I looks awful on my nails!

All I do I wet my face, apply what ever cleanser I'm using and then I go to work on my face with a wet brush. The vibrations of the brush give you a nice massage and after about 2 minutes my face is clean and feels rejuvenated by the massage! On days when I've have full foundation on, the brush will really show that my makeup remover and cleanser alone are not enough.

The brush's size is also really good for getting close to the hairline without soaking your roots (If you flat iron regularly like me this is a BIG plus!) and into the ear area to remove foundation you've blended into those spots.

Now I went into Kappa Drugs in Carenage/Glenco (the Plaza where Hi-Lo is) and found this baby.

I was excited at the time but honestly, I should have know better just based on what felt like cheap packaging. It's from the brand Spa Resource and cost me about $50, which I'd say isn't bad. It comes with the base and 3 attachments, a brush, a sponge and a massager. I only really use the brush. The other two are useless to me really.

Looks disgusting but my foundation has stained the bristles...needs a deep clean

The motor on this product is poor and it's difficult for me to really keep the brush spinning as the slightest amount of pressure will propel the entire base. However I have gotten the hang of it and as the brush is a lot softer than my toothbrush I do use it. But I still prefer the toothbrush method.

So maybe you want to give it a go? Maybe not? But it's something you can keep in mind.

My Fav Brow Highlights

Hey Lovelies, long time to see.

Here are 5 of my fav highlight colours. I like them very complimentary to my skin tone rather to my makeup look. I use the HIP duos mentioned the most highlighting but when I do have time, a light dusting of the other loose shadows completes my makeup look.

In the pics I tried to show their true, dense colours as well as how they would be applied on the brow bone (sheerer).

Experiment in Foundation

Hey loveies!

As you know...or may not know....I LOVE Revlon's ColorStay Foundation. I am a combination #400 Caramel & #370 Toast in the formulation for oily Skin. Toast is way too light and the next shade is Caramel which is too dark on its own.

I am still on my first bottles of the 2 foundations but the Caramel has thickened up and is almost done. So on some long time advice from Sarah Sookraj (facebook) (youtube) - who is a Revlon Makeup Artist - & decided to take a look at the Dry/Combination skin formula. The shades, though they carry the same name are different in actual colour.

I picked up Caramel in the dry/combination formula. It's lighter than the other Caramel since it Revlon was able to fit in SPF 12 in the formula. The add ingredients do tend to lighten foundation.

Well keep your fingers crossed. Hopefully with my milk of magnesia this doesn't get me oily and I'm praying from now own I won't have to mix foundations.

Skin Care for the Makeup Whore

Hi lovies!

Ok so we all know I’m a makeup whore. Horrible word. Correct connotation & meaning for this purpose. I am who I am….*sighs & smh*

Solely for the love of the art form, I wear makeup every weekday and every weekend but only if I’m not at home. Yes pink lips are sexy & glowing skin is gorgeous but without a really good skin care regime it’s all pointless.

A beautiful painting starts with a clean, smooth, as flawless as possible canvas. The better your canvas, the less work you have to do to cover it up. And honestly, I think a ‘done’ face with real skin and beauty showing through is the best type of ‘done’ face.

I don’t have perfect skin & I don’t always treat it as I should but I want you to do as I say & not as I do.

First things first, you need to monitor your skin and its reaction with time and environment & identify what your skin type is. What’s your skin type? I don’t know is NOT an option. I have oily skin. You can have normal, oily, dry or combination skin.

Normal skins tends to be smooth in texture with an even tone with no dry/flaky spots or greasy areas. Breakouts may occur occasionally but it’s minimal and rare.

Oily skin, like mine has visible excess oil and is prone to blemishes and blackheads and is infamous for the shining T-zone!

Dry skin has a tendency to be flaky, red and is prone to wrinkles. If your face feels tight even after washing with a mild cleanser….dun dun dun!...you have dry skin. Lol!

Combination skin can be a combination of any of the other skin types. If texture of the face is different in various areas then you have combination skin. It’s common to be oily in the middle of the face (T-zone) and only be dry in a few spots like around the mouth and on the cheeks.

Right! So now you know your skin type.

Of course, people please use products that were made for your skin type. Also note that with the seasons and with time, your skin’s type can change so keep an eye out.

Persons with normal skin need to realize that you can’t just ‘wash & go’. Though less maintenance is needed, be aware of your skin’s basic needs. You don’t want premature wrinkles no do you?

Those with oily skin must be wary not to strip the skin of all natural oils. This will just make your skin produce more oil to compensate. Twice a day for cleansing is enough. Use a gentle cleanser and toner to follow up. I like to use foam cleansers as they don't leave any deposits/residue on my face. Exfoliate about 3 times a week and try to fit in a clay based mask once a week. A non oil based foundation is recommended, and please stay away from powder foundations that can give a cakey finish. Choose a oil fighting/blotting translucent powder to set foundation when needed. Oily skin must still be moisturized. Use a lightweight, oil free, even oil blocking moisturizer during the day and also at night.

Dry skin is not necessarily dehydrated skin. Dehydrated skin lacks moisture (ie drink some H2O) and dry skin lacks natural oils. Choose milk and cream cleansers and avoid washing your face too often. Save exfoliation for once a week to remove those dried, dead skin cells. A thick night cream should be used. To avoid early onset wrinkles, get an eye cream ASAP. You don’t have to but I’m just saying…. Before you apply your moisture based foundation apply a really good quality moisturizer that will last all day.

Those who fall into the ‘inbetween’ category have a little more care to take, in that you have to treat each skin type separately. For instance for dry & oily skin, apply a thick, rich moisturizer to only the dry areas and apply an oil free one to oily spots.

Now makeup removal is key. Getting all your makeup off so your skin can breathe makes such a BIG difference. Have you ever come home from a party really tired and sleepy and either forgot to go wash your face or just wiped some of it off with a baby wipe? Yeah well do you also remember getting up with that pimple in the middle of your face? Yeah your powder/foundation/blush clogged your pores and you got a nasty little blemish.

You can purchase any of the many makeup removers there are available. I use Neutrogena Eye Makeup Remover (& the wipes too). The L’oreal version is also very good. Look for a cleanser that specifically says it’s for makeup removal. You can use a baby wipe to remove the excess first and then wash with the cleanser. You can also use cold creams or baby oil. The oil base softens the makeup for easier removal.

After I use my makeup remove I then use a toner. You would not believe how much stuff will still be on your face! Depending on how much makeup I know I was wearing, I will also exfoliate, after washing my face but before toning. However if you do all three steps, make sure to moisturize really well. You need to add back the moisture you have striped the skin of.

My Regimen/Products I use:

Cleanser – Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash

Makeup Removers – Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover/ Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes/ Oil-Free Makeup Removing Cleanser

Moisturizers – Bio-Oil (most frequently used), Clean & Clear Night soft Oil-free Moisturizer (lightweight nighttime), Neutrogena Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer (mixed with foundation, worn alone without makeup), Clean & Clear Oil-free Morning Burst Shine Control moisturizer (light weight daytime)

Toner – Noxzema Anti Blemish Astringent

Exfoliator – Biore Pore Minimizing micorderm exfoliator

Mask – Montagne Jeunesse Mud pac

Spot/Blemish Treatment – Clean & Clear Invisible Blemish Treatment

Eye Cream – Neutrogena Anti-oxidant Age Reverse Eye Cream

Now this last thing is optional but I enjoy doing it. Massages! Almost every morning, especially when I use my Bio-oil, I give my face a little massage. Not only does it feel good and hwlps wake me up in the morning, but it also promotes good circulation that is the cure all for everything in my book.

Smells nice. It's ok, great for the price but i'm not really a fan.

I love these metallic palettes from LA Colors. This one is in Gold Rush and is $15 @ WW.

12 piece palette from ColorRunway. $7.95 @ Pennywise. I bought this to breakup the shadows and use the

case but the colours are great. The only thing is that this is a super shimmer (it said so on the box) palette.

I don't like shimmer that much but I do live the green that i swatched in the pic-last row, 2nd column.

What i like is that you don't just get shimmer, you actually get the colour too.

$19.99 Rimmel Trio. I think thats the price. I like the Rimmel stuff for work, the colours arent like BAM in your face.

I'm not sure if it's Sacha or Pennywise that was giving this out...probable Sacha, since i bought like 4 blushes.

It's clearly labelled for Promotional Use Only & It was free. It's a 6 pc lip palette.The room I kept this in got a bit HOT so one of the shades is a bit sweaty.

Bottom Row: Blazing Sinset, Pecan Praline & Nude.

The other free gift I got was this Sacha lipstick. I've never owned one before. This is #3 for Promo Use only also.

I swapped my fingernail & toe nail colours this week. I left them matte. Wasn't a matte fan last week, but let's see if it grows on me. My ring fingers have 1 coat of Orly's "under the mistletoe". It's really messy around the edges. I started doing my nails & then I got tired and sleepy. I'm bloggin now bcoz I waiting for them to dry!

I'm always late with my nails of the week Nail posts. *sigh* But better late than never.

This week I'm rockin Revlon's Emerald City on my fingernails (left) and their polish in Ruby Ribbon on my toes. They are both matte shades (Revlon calls them Matte Suede).

I used a glossy top coat because honestly I'm not a fan of the matte. Not one at all, especially for the Ruby Ribbon. I love the glossy, shimmery emerald though.

I don't know if you noticed but the index finger has a slightly different shade. it's Orly's 'meet me under the mistle toe'. It's very similar so it's hardly noticeable.

This is how the matte is supposed to look but on my nails, I. AM. NoT. A. Fan.

The Ruby Ribbon is not half as lovely as it is in the bottle. To me it comes out as a brownish red. *bleh*

Please dont pay for that Ruby Ribbon. Stick with the green.

Which young lady wouldn't want a closet that looks like this? I say young because it's bubble gum pink. To me thought, it's very young sex and the city Carrie Bradshaw--S/O to SJP & her crew.

The print or decal pattern on the wall is a bit much for me but gotta love the mirror, chandelier and boa!

Rant or Rave? Elf Eyelid Primer

This is a RAVE. Full Stop. A Rave.

Now I only bought this out of fass-ness. I wanted to just see how a US$1 primer would work. I have enough primers or products claiming to be primers.

I got this for TT$12 - a real steal, the price of a cheap lipgloss or a single eyeshadow. You can't even buy lunch with $12!

First impressions:
I was hesitant of the effectiveness of this product because to me it's just too cheap. What could really be in it at that price? water, some powder and some kinda pigment or something.

The tube also feels a little cheap to me. The cover is light and it feels like a $10 lipgloss vs a $20 lipgloss if understand me. Think kleancolor vs avon.

Also when I opened this tube and swatched it on the back of my hand I almost died on spot. I did put it on Facebook. The smell almost made me pass out at my desk at work. The smell is really loud! Smells like nasty alcohol. At that point I couldn't believe ELF would want me to put it on my face. Rub that nastiness on my eye--->well I did

Overall impressions:
I love this. The price and effectiveness work out in this primer's favour. For $12 you get more than your money's worth. I rank this 2nd to Too Faced Shadow Insurance (TFSI), after which come the Urban Decay Primer Potion (UDPP).

I have oily oily oily eyelids (my entire face in fact) and TFSI is the only thing that prevents creasing of my shadows 100% and keeps my shadows vivid and bright. With the UDPP I would sometimes get creasing. The colours stay true to colour but there would be a chance of creasing when I use it.

Now, i use the ELF primer everyday when I do my makeup for work. It is now an essential in my makeup bag. Zero creasing for $12? That is what I call i steal.

Pros:
1) Price - costs $1 USD and not more than $20TT
2) It prevents creasing and preserves colour of eyeshadows
3) The applicator (doe foot) allows you to apply the perfect amount to lids.
4) The tube is shaped in a way that allows you to maximize the number of applications (unlike UDPP)
5) Though it goes on sheer, the tint of colour does act as a base that can allow shadows to show up slightly brighter.

Cons:
1) If you smell this directly you might pass out. However in everyday, normal application the scent doesnt offend your senses.
2) The product is less accessible than other primers. In T&T this product is not sold in stores. I only know of a few Facebook sellers who carry the product. It can be ordered through a rep of delivered to you.
3) Such an applicator does tend to foster bacteria growth since the applicator touches your face everything you use it --->unless of course you come up with some sorta other method of use.
4) There is a tint of colour, darker than that of UDPP & TFSI. If you wanted something more invisible then this would be a con.
5) Does NOT work well with cream shadows. I applied this under a shade stick and yes it did minimize the creasing, there was still a noticable shift in shadow--hot mess if u ask me. So for oily lids--->powders only

Part of Some Major Haulage

I don't know if some of you would have seen some posts on Facebook about haulage and Wonderful World but if you didn't, now you know.
On Thursday 18^th November @ about 6:30pm at Wonderful World Gulf City, I backed up the check out line like you've never seen. I got some goodies to make gifts as donations for less fortunate teens. I chose to makeup a manicure/pedicure kit as part of that donation.

I did 3 in different colours. Very cute. I would give my neice oneànote to self, send niece gift.

So other than that, I was loving some products that WW now has in stock. Most of those items though you will see at a later date. It'll part of a Reeleesweet secret stash for supporters of Reeleesweet. So stay tuned for that one.
So this is the stuff I bought for myself and wanted to try out.

L.A. Colors Baked Eyeshadow in Solar - $20

They also have a lot of items instock by the brand Magic. I've never heard of it but this baked quad caught my attention…bad!

Magic Baked Eyeshadow #02 - $12

Not the best swatches but it.is.gorgeous! esp the last colour I swatched.

I have the blue to this and I love it! I don't have any green liquid or cream liners.

At $15 I had to get it.

Lastly, yes I only got 4 things for myself, I got this Magic trio baked palette.

These, as well as the others above, are not the softest shadows but the colour payoff is decent and the prices are on point. These are beautiful when the colours are used separately, as well as when the colours are swirled to create a unique colour combo.

This cost me $15 and I like the Magic baked shadows more than the LA Colors based on the swatches I've done so far.

Hey lovelies!

It's almost the end of the week but for this week I've been wearing a China Glaze shade that I picked up from Wonderful World on Saturday in a made shopping whirlwind (not my whilrwind though, i only picked up 3 things). Anyways I promised myself I would go back to take a closer look at some of the newer items I noticed are now in stock.

The shade is Thataway and it cost me either $30 or $35--->a bit pricey for me, though I have a few Avon shade that cost like $20-$21 (TT). Anyways for me that was the cost of experimenting and trying something I've heard about for awhile.

I've had them on my nails for four days now without a top coat and they're doing pretty well, some chipping and receding from the tip but the shine is still awesome. Looks good I must say.

Little Bit of a Storage Change

Hey lovelies!

Happy Monday night.

I stopped by Better Value in Gulf View San Fernando today and found some baskets that made me want to change the way i store my makeup.

I have this Sterilite/Rubbermaid (idk which) storage unit.

I used to use kitchen draw organizers for cutlery etc. but I find individual baskets better.

I can lift out each individual basket to 'inspect' my goodies and decide what i want to use. Now i dont have to bend/hunch over to see what's in the bottom draw. I can lift the blush or whatever out and place it on my table top and then put it back.

Top Drawer: Face & Lip

White basket - 3 for $12.95 @ Better Value. I keep all my lip glosses and lipsticks standing so I see what colour I'm looking for. For now they fit perfectly in the white baskets.

Orange baskets - 3 for $10 @ Super 10 (sold out for now I think). In one I keep all my foundations and pressed powders. In the other there is an overspill of lip products and concealers.

Purple basket - 3 for $19.95 @ Better Value. This one has all my 'extras'. Extra elf eye brushes, mascaras, empty travel bottles & makeup sponges.

Second Drawer: Eyeshadow

You see it's easier for me to configure each drawer as I would like. Also I can stack baskets. In the white baskets I have all my Sacha quads and singles, Rimmel quads, Revlon Colorstay quads etc.

In the orange basket we have all my LA Colors Metallic 5 piece palettes, my wet & wild palette and all my L'oreal HIP duos.

There are 3 pink baskets in this drawer, 2 are stacked. A basket or pigment samples and baggies is on top a basket of shade sticks and jumbo pencils. Next to those are eyeshadow bases.

Third Drawer: Pigments, Loose Shadows & Blush

Before my collection took up all four drawers. With my new organization, it only takes up 3 of the 4 drawers.

In this drawer I keep all loose shadows/pigments, blushes & bronzers/highlighters.

In the back I have shadows & pigments in jars and resting on those is a pill case containing pigments.

In the white poster paint containers are depotted NYX pearl mania shadows & LA Colours Shimmering Shadows (or some name like that).

The other 2 baskets hold the majority of my blushes, highlighters & bronzers.

The last drawer is empty and waiting for more goodies!

I was just dabbling in some makeup and I ended up loving this very cool, easy, neutral look using a very bright palette.

Face:

1. Concealer: Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse in Caramel (Really a foundation but great coverage)
2. Foundation: Maybelline Dream Liquid Foundation in Caramel (applied with a damp stippling brush)
3. Powder: Avon Ideal Shade Pressed Powder in Medium Deep.

The foundation is a bit dark and off tone for me so I set it with a lighter powder.

Eyes:

I used Sacha's Brights Palette #1. No base was used.

1. Lid: Orange (applied with a flat shader brush)
2. Crease: Deep Brown (applied with fluffy blending brush)
3. Highlight: Yellow/Gold tone (applied with fluffy all over shadow brush)

I never thought I could get a toned down, neutral look with this palette.

Cheeks:

Sacha Blush in Coffee Bean (matte) under Sacha's Amber Glow (shimmery).

Lips:

A free sample of and Avon Lipstick I got from my rep (Avon Direct). The shade is in Coral but I don't know which line it's from. It's also a VERY sheer colour.

Over that I used a KleanColor Glamour Gloss in Sweet Heart.

That's it! It took me less than 10 minutes to get a complete look.

Failure or No?:: Maybelline's The Falsies Mascara

Festival of Lights

Hey lovies!

Shub Divali...aka Happy Divali!So today @ work they allowed workers to honour the celebration of the Hindu holiday by allowing us to wear traditional east indian wear and we lit diyas!
All non Hindus/East Indians/Trinis, this is a diya.

So i wore my little (well not so little) indian inspired green and white tunic with gold detailing. And finally i got to show off the bright eye colours I love @ work!

So to get the above look - although the pic is poor & was taken at the end of the day.

1) I primed with UDPP (which did not work & I noticed some unacceptable creasing) & then used NYX jumbo pencil in Milk lightly as a base.

2) Then I applied the gold from this L'oreal HIP duo in flambouyant to the inner half of the lid.

3) I applied this bright green to the outer half of the lid.

4) This green/teal was lightly applied to the crease and used in the outer quarter of the lower lash line.

5) This colour that is very close to my skintone was used for a highlight on my brow bone.

6) I applied this Rimmel The Max Mascara in 003 very black (or some kinda name like that) & then over that I used Maybelline's The Falsies mascara.

7) I also lined my water line with a black eyeliner by Avon, it's their ultra luxury eyeliner.

On my face...when it was fresh:
Neutrogena Moisturizer with Revlon ColorStay Liquid Foundation in Caramel & Toast.
MAC Studio Fix in NC50
Blush is Sacha's amber glow

in the pic I'm wearing purple lip balm (it's what i keep in my desk drawer) but I started the day in a nude-ish coloured lip balm by nyx (a round glass).

My Sensitive Teeth :-(

Very random I know but I thought I should let you all know what's my take on sensitivity toothpaste.

Only recently have I been experiencing MAJOR sensitivity in some of my teeth. I have a cavity and they drilled and after that it's never been the same in there. So after the dentist even put a coating of some kind of filler over the sensitive teeth I still had sensitivity.
After seeing all those ad for sensodyne I decided to try it out. But my dentist did tell me that she felt the toothpaste was abrasive and that I should just spread it over my teeth and then rinse. Of course being the youth that I am....I didnt do what she said. Instead I brushed with it about two to three times a week and the sensitivity was gone! My Godsend.
So after the first tube was done I went to the grocery to of course repurchase. But damn HiLo didnt have any in stock. I bought Arm and Hammer instead. BIG waste of money. No help at all! I didn't even like the baking soda taste of the stuff. I gave it to my mum, she and my dad have no problem putting sweet but salty toothpaste in their mouths.
Of course by now sensitivity from hell returned. I got my hands on some Sensodyne and in two brushes all those weird sensations were gone! love it! But nothing is ever perfect. It was only recently though that I was able to pinpoint that frikkin Sensodyne was causing the inner lining of my mouth to peel. Like ridiculously peel!. I noticed it before and would ask other people if they ever had that problem and never thought I was the damn toothpaste.
Solution? None. I still use it about 3 times a week to keep away the sensitivity and I made a mental note to ask my dentist of mouth-lining peeling has any irreversible, terminal effects.
Well folks good luck with that sensitivity. If you dont have sensitivity...well hoorah! for you. lol

A Little Bitty Haul

Just a small haul from Superpharm San Fernando and Sacha Image Centre West Mall. More makeup I think I need.

L'oreal HIP creme blush in Blushing. I love these creme blushes. They last all day on my oily skin and the colour will give my cheeks a nice rosy natural tint.

I love Sacha blushes! The staying power is great and so is the pigmentation. The Amber Glow and Shameless Cinnamon are not matte. Usually I don't get shimmery blushes but the colours are gorgeous!

Now I have a lot of eyeshadows but out of ALL the shadows on display at the Image Centre only this one stood out to me.

I got some other things from Superpharm including Makeup removal wipes by Neutrogena, I am really excited about this one. I am in love with the crease/contour brush by Revlon so I have to try out the allover shadow brush.

So the fabulous Christmas in July aka my birthday was on Sunday (4th July) and my wonderful friend gave me a gift that so fits my personality. Now I'm not openly admitting to being vain or incredibly self loving and aware but this gift totally describes me and how I feel!!!! She knows me so well.

Now you've also got to get yourselves copies of all the Chelsea Handler books. They're a little rude and not for the kiddies but they are so worth the read.

Let's Rant About Sacha

Sacha Cosmetics is a Trinidadian brand of makeup. They make products for "exotic skin". I am generally a fan of their eyeshadow, I love their blushes and their lipsticks and glosses. Sacha has revamped their image with upgrades in both formulas, products and packaging. I haven't tried any of their foundations, powders, concealers etc lately but from years before, I am not a fan. I feel like the overall finish isn't the best. I also see makeup done with Sacha products and I'm not impressed BUT it could be the application vs the actual product.

I just stocked up on their eyeshadow, although I find that the consistency isn't...well....consistent. Some are smooth and velvety while others tend to be "hard" and kind of crusty and hard to work with. But I still love my sacha eyeshadow, they're cheap and great quality.

My problem? Why are Sacha products more expensive at Sacha stores? Why can I go to Pennywise and buy a brights palette for TT$100 and Sacha Image Centers are selling the same thing for TT$150. I went into Sacha and saw a 24 eyeshadow palette. I wanted to buy is but it was TT$250. I can't throw down that kind of money without sleeping on it. So I let the Image Center and planned to think about the purchase. Then I went to Pennywise Cosmetics to get some toiletries and lo and behold the same Sacha 24 palette is watching me in the eye with a big price tag saying $150.

How on God's great earth could Pennywise have this product $100 cheaper?! I am totally confused. No one in the US goes to Macy's instead of the MAC store to get foundation because the foundation is cheaper at MACY's.
I am going to PM Sacha on facebook and ask them about this. I just think that as a company it is a disgrace to have products selling for much less at third party retailers.

Sacha's Reply:
"The rapid rate of inventory turnover of beauty and personal care products that Pennywise generates on a daily basis allows it to take advantage of economies of scale which in turn keeps overheads at a bare minimum. As such they are able to comfortably supply the local market at a lower price. A well known international company named Wal-Mart has been successfully utilizing this strategy for decades.

Our Sacha Image Centers seek to provide excellent customer service as well as a higher degree of product differentiation. For instance, we supply custom made palettes that are sold exclusively at our Image Centers (6 types). This as well as other “bells and whistles” that add significant value to the customer experience at Sacha Image Centers will command a higher price as opposed to other retail locations countrywide.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused."

OK so all the bells and whistles equal higher markup. Fine! I'll stick to 'looking' at image centers and 'buying' at Pennywise.

Hot Flaming Mess of the Week

We all know the Cheetah Girls right? Well why didn't anyone tell me that miss Keily Williams posted/released the video for her not so hit single "Spectacular"? Probably because no one knew she still sang....especially solo.

The song and video were apparently made to address the issue of unprotected sex etc. So she posted under the video after viewers practically killed her inbox with negative messages. Definitely watch the video.

Now my issue with the hot flaming mess that is the song and accompanying video, is that:
1. the song is not even catchy. At least record using the hottest beat you could find to at least catch the interest of those you are targeting with that topic.

2. Who the hell wrote those lyrics? "Said he was like a stallion and the man wasn't lying", " Hope he used a rubber or I'mma be in trouble"--WTF. It's just a bit much...a bit too much!

3. Was is necessary to show rasta stallion's ass in the video? I am assuming that her target audience are younger females who know her from cheetah girls and whatever else she did during her life. Nobody, especially not the millions of Yt viewers want to witness the buns of not so steel that belonged to the guy who made the sex so spectacular.

4. Who funded this mess. Is it a PSA? No it's not. Who exec in their right mind would say "yeah Keiley it's a great idea, here's some cash go hire a camera man." *sigh*

I am all for promoting awareness and promoting safe sex yada yada yada but come on this is not (cannot be) the way!

All in all I feel like the topic/issue could have been approached with much more tact and class. It just seems that while the other girls of the group that helped make her famous are on Dancing with the Stars, hosting shows and raking in the ca$h Keily Williams wants to attack some attention (positive or not). Its not what they say, its how many people say it.

Check ItsKingslyBitch's view on the matter. He is funny like i dunno what.

Eyeshadow for Amateurs

Part 1: Covering All Our Bases

Let's kick things off wit a series on Eyeshadow for Amateurs. This first one is on eyeshadow bases and/or eyeshadow primers. This one is a little longer and more detailed than a Youtube video that I did. I have that video posted at the bottom of this.

What is a base/primer?

An eyeshadow base or primer helps reveal and enhance the color of eye shadow and helps it last longer. It also makes it easier to blend your eye shadow as well as prevent creasing. Basically a base sets your eyeshadow and without it your eye makeup may fade, crease or flake within a short period of time.

All across the Yt you can see gurus and average joes using Urban Decay Primer Potion, Too Faced Shadow Insurance, L'Oreal De-crease Eye Shadow Base, Mac Paint Pots....yada, yada, yada!

For those who simply can't find such products where you live there are some other basic options that you choose. The products that I am listing and discussing can all be readily found in Trinidad. I'll link you to each product's webpage - just look out for the pink underlined text like this. Now keep in mind I am still in the market for the perfect base but in the mean time I work with what I have and what I can find on the local market. I have used some of these products and others I'm just listing to give you a clue as to what's out there.

**Note that the short 'reviews' I give are just my opinion on how these products work on my EXTREMELY oily eyelids while I live in a very HOTT tropical country.**

Primers are usually cream based (though eHow just told me they come in powder form too) and come in a variety of colors depending on your preference or need. You only need a little to make a world of difference.

1. Fleshtoned Primers

These primers are made to match your skin, even out the skin tone on the eyelid. Darkness or redness is minimized, allowing eyeshadow to be applied evenly.

-Concealers and Foundations:

Concealers and foundations are made to stay put for the duration of the day, resist creasing and may provide a cheap and convenient base for your eyeshadows. Though I myself have never used this method of priming, you should use a creamier (vs liquid) version of either and apply a thin layer to the lids and see how that goes. You can also make a primer using concealer, foundation and lotion/moisturizer.

-Sacha Fix It Eyeshadow Primer:

I don't know if you can get these at Pennywise Cosmetics, but check out a Sacha ImageCenter to find this product. The primer is loosely matched to your skin tone. I've used this and while it does keep your shadows vibrant longer. However you need to apply this VERY lightly and blend it out very well as it does have a creasing problem. But because of my eye structure creasing is hidden well in the crease of my eye. This is affordable (less than TT$50) and a good primer solution, you just have to know how to work with it.

2. Light or White Primers

The difference with lighter or white bases is that they help shadows appear more vibrant and true to colour on the eyelid. Think about wanting to paint your wall lime green. To get the colour that you see in that paint can to translate exactly unto your wall you either apply like 10 coats of lime green paint or you first apply a primer. And what colour is traditional paint primer? White! Of course you can use a green base but that will be covered in the next section.

-Styli-Style L3 Shadow Base:

I found this Styli-Style Shadow Base at Superpharm Price Plaza awhile ago. I haven't seen it at the Gulf View branch that I usually go to but if you find it, it's an option. I suppose this primer was made to be flesh-toned for lighter skinned people but as a woman of colour (woc) it’s light and near white for me. I can't remember the price but it’s not the first base I go to but it’s pretty decent.

-NYX Eyeshadow Bases:

Now, I love NYX--generally. They have 3 different bases: Skin Tone, Pearl & White. Now the 'skin tone' version of the product is not going to translate as 'skin tone' on my lids - I'm not going to fool myself thinking that. So I have the pearl version as you can see from the pic above (the lady gave me the wrong one - I wanted the white). This product launched recently, after the company suddenly realized that every American woman, man and child that wore eyeshadow used their Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk as a base.

I must say I am not a fan of the pearl base. It’s too shimmery for me. Also, I find that it’s difficult for me to evenly blend the product over my eye. However, my dolls, feel free to try it out and see how it works for you. I suggest it as a plan B product and you should go for the white version as this pearlized formula doesn't give the vibrancy to my shadows that I'm looking for. It's a TT$36 cost at the NYX kiosk @ Long Circular Mall.

- NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk (or maybe even in Cottage Cheese):

The world renowned, universal Milk Jumbo Eye Pencil base. I went to the kiosk in search of this but they were out of stock & I ended up with…the NYX Eyeshadow Base. Though I've never used it (but I have one coming to me soon - review?)

-Elf Studio Line Eye Primer:

I never tried it but one of my fav gurus on Yt has a review on it. But do remember that if you like in a tropical climate the results may be different.

- Amplified by Arlene Villarule for Ambrosia Cosmetics:

I ordered this “eyeshadow adhesive” on the recommendation of two makeup lovers and I’ve heard only good things from another. So, I’m excited to try it. Arlene Villarule, the creator has some videos reviewing and using the product. Retail price: TT$60.

-Paints & Paint Pots:

I really didnt know where to place these bases since paints tend to come in neutral/skin tone colours (to my knowledge that is) with the exception of a few shades.

Mac Paint Pots & Paints – At US$16.50 these products should translate to about TT$140. I am not a Mac person but many swear by paint pots and paints from this company.

I talked about Mac Paints above but L’oreal also makes some Hip Cream Shadow Paints. There are about 4 or 5 shades that are mainly neutral ie not hot pinks. The do dry a little quickly but when they dry OMG! go they stay put! A bit pricey for drugstore makeup though, I'm thinking $90 @ the S.pharm but I'm not sure--however remember always cheaper at Pennywise!

**Note: I am thinking of getting the lightest shade of the Sacha primer to make my shadows 'pop' more or show up more vibrant. **

3. Coloured Primers

Just like white or light bases or primers, coloured ones help intensify the shadows that you apply to your eyes. The colour of the base should match the colour (or colour family) of the eyeshadow you are going to use. Especially with lighter and brightly toned eyeshadows, coloured primers help the true colour of the shadow to show up on the lid. So basically use a yellow base under yellow shadow.

**Note: Black or darker bases can be applied to darken the look of an eyeshadow.**

- Various Shadow/Shade Sticks:

These can range from Mac Shade Sticks to Jordana Eyeshadow Pencils. They all come in a multitude of colors – white, brights, skin tones, darks…etc. The Mac ones run about TT$140 ($US16.50) from the Mac Cosmetics outlet in West Mall while Avon has Big Color Eye Pencils for US$6 (if there is no sale) that you can get from your rep. If you find a good pencil eyeliner you can use it! Blend it out well though.

There are also NYX Jumbo Pencils in a wide variety of colours, from mattes to shimmers. So definitely check those out.

- Gel Liners & Cream Shadows:

Gel or Cream Liners – I’ve never tried these but I’ve seen them used. If you find one with good staying power and creaminess to allow good blending then go for it.

Cream/Liquid Shadows & Paints – Now you can get all types and shades of cream shadows from ELF (EyesLipsFace) Duo Eyeshadow Creams (from FB business – ELF Cosmetics Trinidad) to Revlon Illuminance Crème Shadows (from pharmacies including Superpharm). I think Avon has some too – Not too sure. Check out Elf and Avon for liquid shadows.

**Note: Remember you can also use your white or fleshtoned base under a coloured base. **

Ok so what have I forgotten? Tell me about any other options there are. Hope this helps. Sorry it's soo long but I didn't want to do it in parts.

So I've been inspired by muffinismylovers from Yt to put together some thought on Sacha Cosmetics products. April aka muffinismylovers is from the US and lives in NY and Sacha contacted her to try out and review some of their products. She basically showed what they sent her and she's going to do a full review soon. It got me thinking...What do I really think of Sacha? vs. other makeup brands available in Trinidad. So you can take a look at April's video and congratulate Sacha on being up and up with the times while I try to put together my thoughts on Sacha for a video and blog review.

Hi my sweeties!

Welcome to Reeleesweet the Blog. So after 6mths on the Youtube (Yt) I decided to move on a start a supporting blog! Hope you all like what I've done with the place. It took awhile but I think its ready to become fully functional.

This is just another forum for me to communicate with you all. This is actually easier for me to post. With videos it takes a day or two to record and edit and then a few minutes to post on Yt and then process...but here I can actually post more frequently and on a wider variety of topics.

So dolls expect Yt supporting posts plus more posts on fashion, random issues and on my everyday life.

Hola peeps. So...introductions first. I'm Rhea and I'm from Trinidad (& Tobago). Where? Well done if you didn't need that tiny geography lesson. If you did click...well you learnt something today. I'm 22 and I am currently standing in the unemployment line whenever I'm not laying on the couch in my parents' house. I just finished my degree in Management Studies (Business) from The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine and I'm really not actively looking for work. I need a break but the job hunt will start soon....I promise!

I've always had a love for everything beauty related and I tend to think of myself as almost a true girly-girl - painted nails, glossed lips and always with a purse to match. I've also tended to be a more creative soul (hence my major in business management).

My current obsession? Makeup and watching makeup related viz on youtube (sinful). But after having no real interests and passing phases of the most random things, I think I've finally found what I've been looking for.

What is Reeleesweet?

Since I was about 12 I've used 'reeleesweet' as an online nickname/pseudonym. Ree is short for Rhea, my first name, and my middle name is Lee....hence the Reelee. The 'sweet' part was just a convenient word at the time to set up and email address. Now friends often call me Reelee, many online usernames are inspired by it, including my Youtube (Yt) channel, and I have several dedicated email addressed. It's now become a term or word that refers to me in all aspects of life, including how I choose to live it and interact with others.

This blog is a natural progression from my Youtube channel, reeleesweet2. I started making videos in December 2009 and now this blog will allow me to express more without a 10 minute restriction. Think of this blog as an extension from my Yt activities plus more randomness and rambling.

What is this blog about?

Just like in my Youtube videos, my main focus is on makeup, beauty, a little fashion, life in general here on my island.
